Bedworth return to winning ways.
here were no real chances in the first minutes, but the pace was fast and furious with both sides testing each other out. Coventry Sphinx, then made a good break down the middle of the park into our box, a shot hit the post, after a scramble the ball comes breaks loose and the final shot is cleared off the line by Aaron Formaston.
Sphinx continued to pressure Bedworth and after 25 minutes at three corners that failed to produce any goals. This pressure continued for a further 10 minutes until Bedworth started to get back into the game with two corners both of which were cleared. A brilliant long-range shot by Joshua Ruff, had their keeper at full stretch to push on to the bar. The ball comes out Mark Withers, who scores a superb goal and Bedworth go in at half time winning 0 – 1.
Half Time 0 - 1
Second half starts at the same pace, with both teams trying to take control of the game. Another long-range shot by Joshua Ruff on target, has the keeper just holding onto the ball at the feet of Mark Withers. Both teams are now battling it out in the middle of the park and are cancelling each other out. Sphinx then make a breakthrough in the middle of the park into our box, Kevin Tobin pulls off a fine save with his legs.
Dave Formaston then makes some substitutions, off come Joshua Ruff and Tom Keating, on comes Aaron Troop and Kyle Baxter. With his first touch of the ball Aaron Troop beats his marker and with only the keeper to beat, fired straight at the keeper and the ball comes out.
Another substitution Alex Platt off and Danny Wright on. Then as the match draws to an end, one of the Sphinx forwards curls the ball from the edge of our box. Only see to see it hit the post and go out for a goal kick. The final result, a win to Bedworth United.
A hard fought match, considering we haven't had a match
for eight weeks it was a good result. It was nice to
see some of the injured players returning, Sam Bircher
will hopefully be back in a couple of weeks. The AFC
Telford losing 4 - 0 to Highgate United, next week's
match at home to Hednesford Town could see Bedworth
United challenging for the top spot.
