Bedworth maintain their interest in the lands premier cup competition with this 2-1 win over Nottinghamshire side Rainworth MW despite being a goal down, but unfortunately the game will be remembered for the wrong reason, as mid way through the second half the game almost ended in a free for all between the Wrens bench and a handful of so called Bedworth fans.
This may result in probable action being taken by the F A (pending the referees report along with the visiting assessors).
Rainworth kicked off attacking the baths end and in the opening period looked the better of the two sides as they quickly settled down and probably could have been two up in the first twenty minutes if it were for not the agility of the Bedworth keeper Andy Kemp who made two remarkable saves from Ian Clarke and Anthony Lyneham respectively.
Rainworth took a well deserved lead after 38 minutes after a Simon Wright free kick was helped over the goal line by Julian Topliss, but the lead was short lived as the greenbacks equalised six minutes later almost on the stroke of half time a Sam Shilton cross was headed home past keeper Mark Hales by Ashley Robinson to make the score line 1-1.
Half Time 1 - 1
A minute into the second half saw the home side take the lead; a Fazel Koriya centre was met by the outstretched leg of Jason Moore to make it 2-1 to the home side.
If the first half belonged to the visitors then clearly the second went to the home side with the away keeper being the busier if the two keepers.
Mid way through the half Kemp injured his ankle and clearly could not continue, as he was being helped from the field of play a disturbance occurred between the two opposition dugouts which then saw a minority of so called home fans getting involved referee had no choice but to take action and the game was held for a short period of time.
After the game resumed Matty Blair had a good shot saved by Hales and almost at the final whistle Danny Naylor missed the easiest of chances which would have taken his side to a replay, but as it was Bedworth held onto their slender lead which sees them go into draw of the third qualifying round for the first time since 96-97 season.
