United upset the form book with this great result against Uni-Bond First Division league side Leek Town which saw the greenbacks march into the first qualifying round of the FA Cup, high up in the moorlands of Staffordshire, Town unbeaten and sitting on top of their division were no match for their Southern League visitors who were yet to register a win this season.
Leek started the tie but found themselves trailing after only five minutes through a rather dodgy penalty given by an inept refereeing decision, Faziel Koriya was fouled outside of the goal area Steve Brannan, Koriya himself proceeded to the free kick which appeared to hit defender Nick Ward on the shoulder, but fortunate for Bedworth referee Colin Marshall gave hand ball and giving the spot kick to the visitors which was dispatched by Koriya.
This setback seemed to un-nerve the home side as Bedworth took control, Leek went close to an equaliser on eighteen minutes but Leon Ashmans close range header went inches wide of his target, from the goal kick the ball was played down field where the greenbacks won a corner resulting in Gilbert Cummins heading over the cross bar.
Just before the half hour united keeper Andrew Kemp pulled off a great save from Ashley Miller, after the ball was played back out from kemps clearance a Sam Shilton 30 yard direct free kick easily beat keeper Steve Hodgson after Tristan Kabango had been fouled by Mark Ruddock.
Half Time 0 - 2
United increased their lead five minutes after the interval a bad defensive mistake by Ward let in Jason Moore with the easiest of chances to beat Hodgson with a deft header.
This third goal seemed to spark new life into the home side and it was on sixty four minutes, that the Town supporters had something to shout about after a Matt Johnson corner was forced over Kemp's goal line by Miller.
The goal gave town inspired Leek and as they bombarded United with everything they had it came as no surprise when they notched their second goal, again Miller being the scorer eight minutes from time, greenbacks captain was adjudged to have fouled Paul McMahon inside the box which gave Miller the chance to reduce the arrears and to make 2-3.
The final minutes of this intriguing tie saw Leek throw everything at the united defence but the men in green held their nerve and for their rewards will now travel to Stourbridge where they will meet Midland Alliance out fit Causeway United on September 12th 2009.
