IT wasn't a vintage performance from Bedworth but in the end it was three
welcome points.
The Greenbacks deserved their victory - only their second in 16 games - but made
hard work of seeing off a poor Willenhall outfit. An Anthony Nicholls own
goal settled the issue in the end, while the visitors finished the game with ten
men after captain Steve Palmer saw red.
Chances were few although Bedworth had a golden opportunity on 16 minutes.
Akin Aladetoun's strike was handled in the area, but the striker saw his spot
kick saved by keeper Stuart Brock.
At the other end Karl Edwards should have opened the scoring when racing clear,
but dragged his effort wide with just keeper Andrew Kemp to beat.
The only goal arrived in injury time at the end of the first half. Loan
signing Justin Marsden nipped in and saw his strike blocked by Brock. But the
ball fell back to Marsden who crossed low and Nicholls diverted the ball into
his own net.
Bedworth were the better side in the second half and substitute Adam Kinder
should have scored with his first touch, but screwed his shot wide from 15
yards.
A second goal nearly arrived in injury time when Paddy Connolly did well down
the right. His cross picked out Kinder whose strike was superbly saved by
Brock and Aladetoun couldn't capitalised on the loose ball.
Bedworth United: Kemp, Moran, J Williams, Pitham, Browett, Cummins,
Connolly, Twigger (Baker, 78), Marsden (Kinder, 85), Aladetoun, S Williams. Subs
